그래미어워드 수상자, 디즈니의남자, 엑스팩터 우승자들을 한 자리에 불러모은'코리안드림', 8월 15일 전세계에 공개되다
세계 유일의 분단국가, 한반도
'한반도 통일'이라는 세계에서 가장 시급한 문제를 놓고 세계 유명 아티스트들이한데 모인 이유는 언젠가 이곳이 평화의 상징이 될 것이라는 꿈이있기 때문이다.
'코리안드림(Korean Dream)'이라는곡은 자넷 잭슨, 조지 마이클, 머라이어 캐리, 휴먼리그, 어셔와 같은 아티스트들과 함께 작업하며 여러번의 그래미어워드를 수상한 레전드프로듀서 듀오 지미 잼(Jimmy Jam)과 테리 루이스(Terry Lewis)가 작사/작곡/프로듀싱으로 참여했고, 디즈니 애니메이션 '미녀와 야수(Beauty & The Beast)'와 '알라딘(A Whole New World)'의 주제곡으로 유명한 피보 브라이슨(Peabo Bryson), 한국교포출신으로 엑스팩터(X Facter) 호주 최초의 동양인 우승자이며 2016년 유로비전 송콘테스트에서 준우승을 차지한 임다미(Damiim)와 한국의 대표적인 남성보컬 정동하(Jung Dongha), 떠오르는 신예 남성보컬그룹 보이스퍼(Voisper), 필리핀가수 에드레이(Edray), 사브리나(Sabrina), 젠디(Zendee) 그리고 미국의 싱어송라이터 로렌 에반스(Lauren Evans)가 보컬로 참여했다. 이 노래는 한반도의 통일을 통해 남과북이 갈등과 반목을 넘어 진정한 화합을 되찾고 세계를 향해 평화의 메시지를 전할 수 있도록 세계인들의 지지와 관심을 모으고자 기획되었다.
"음악은 상대방의 영혼에 직접 닿을 수 있는거라고 생각합니다"
작사가이자 프로듀서인 테리 루이스는 음악이 갖고 있는 힘에 대해 이렇게 말한다.
"어떤 언어든, 나이가 많든 적든, 당신이 어디서 왔건 그건 중요하지 않아요, 좋은 노래는 사람들의 마음을 움직여 그들이 원하는 것을 결국 찾아낼 수 있게 하니까요."
그리고 이 노래를 통해서 우리가 원하는 것, 모두가 원하는 것은 사랑과 화합 그리고 오랫동안 방치되었던 문제들에 다시 관심을 가지는 것이다.
"하나의 꿈, 하나의 코리아, 하나된 세계"이것은 그저 구호가 아니다. '코리안드림(Korean Dream)'을 통해 실현될 수 있는 우리의 꿈이다. 우리 모두를 위해서 말이다.
Grammy-winners, chart-toppers, Disney stars and X Factor champions join forces for charity single ‘Korean Dream’ released on South Korea’s National Independence Day, 15thAugust
It’s one of the world’s most pressing issues, which is why some of the world’s biggest artists have come on board to create an anthemfor a dream. The dream that one day, the world’s only partitioned country – Korea –will becomeunited again.
Producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, the multi-Grammy-winning team behind number one hits for Janet Jackson, George Michael, Mariah Carey, Human League and Usher have joined forces with Peabo Bryson, famous for his duets with Celine Dion, Roberta Flack and Chaka Khan, for his Grammy awards and for singing the themes to Disney’s Beauty & the Beast and ‘A Whole New World’ from Aladdin.
The result? ‘Korean Dream’, a non-profit single byPeabo, Korean-born Australian X Factor winner DamiIm with the most famous singers in Korea - Jung Dongha and K-pop boy band Voisper – alongside Filipino singers Edray, Sabrina and Zendee and American Lauren Evans, who also lend their voices to the cause. The single is set to be released on South Korea’s National Independence Day, 15th August.
The whole thing is the brainchild of ONE K Global Campaign Organising Committee, whose goal is to tell the world about Korea, the only divided country in the world. Their dream is peace and unification for North and South Korea, ending years of families being split, of tension between nations where brothers and sisters are pitted against each other and of poverty and civil rights abuses for those whom fate put on the wrong side of the random border, a border that has held Korea back from making its full contribution to the world.
‘I think music reaches right into the soul of someone,’ says writer and producer Terry Lewis, and he should know something about the impact music can have. ‘It doesn’t matter what language, doesn’t matter whether you are young or old or where you are from. A great song can really uplift and provide the soundtrack for the people to do whatever it is they want to do.’
And what the people want to do in this case is bring love and harmony and togetherness to a region where those qualities have been overlooked for too long.
One dream, one Korea, one world is the message. ‘Korean Dream’ is the song that could make it come true. For all of us. |
